Which GW to get?
(I apologise ahead if this is in the wrong forum.)
Hi, I really wanna get Guild Wars but I don't know whether to get the original Guild Wars or Factions. I prefer PvE but I really want to start trying PvP, and I'd rather start a bit of PvE before I get into PvP, just to get the hang of the GW universe. Thanks. (Sorry if this all sounds a bit jibberish! ) |

then ur best bet is to get prophicies the first chapter. best one with a learning curve. just do all the quests in pre searing first before u leave for post atleast on your first character.

Pre-searing is basically a tutorial to the game - if you have no experience with the game or any games like this - I would say it's highly recommended.
But yeah go with Prophecies it's a more 'complete' game where as Factions is more of an expansion (although it's labeled a standalone game). |

I'd definitely advise Prophecies first, it's easier to get a handle on if you're new to this kind of game, and you level more slowly than in Factions, giving you time to get used to your skills. Plus Prophecies is better for PvE than Factions, and has a good storyline to work through

Ty, I never heard a tutorial being called pre-searing.
Btw what's the majority of the community like? Last edited by Undertaker798; Aug 21, 2006 at 10:33 AM // 10:33.. |

It's called pre-searing cause the event that brings the tutorial to an end is a bunch of fire raining down that sears the whole kingdom. Some fighting and stuff insues and you travel several years into the future and you're into the actual game (everything after of course being known as post searing).
But definitely start with Prophecies |

You seemed to have answered my community question, seems like you are all pretty friendly. I have to admit reading the "Biggest ever Jerk" thread and various others made me a bit nervous, lol. I was a bit put off that some people seem to like ruining the game.

Years later, several chapters along, many GW players referred to the chapter called Factions only as "the mistake".
At least that's the consensus of those the I play the game with. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of GW. It's not that Factions is so bad I supppose, just that Prophecies is so much better. If you want to max level your charachter(s) with out doing anything more than farting in a paper bag- go with factions. If you want to grow with and learn your charachters, go with prophecies. |

well i was going to tell you to wait til GWN comes out, simply because itll have a fresh skillset, 2 additional classes, etc
Factions is a good game, and I think its very very fun once you get to some of the later missions... but for a new player- it might gimp you having a lvl 20 character with hardly any real experience... Prophecies is a great game. You wont regret getting that game first. Id have to recommend this order: GW1, GW3, GW2 reports say that gw3(nightfall) will be more focused on pve, which the community here assumes will mean a slower levelling progression to maximize the feeling of growth and accomplishement. Personally id prefer something about halfway in between factions and prophecies... and I have a feeling Nightfall will be it. Yeah dude- Factions may be hot right now- but as soon as gwN comes out its going to slow down (currently its a freaking madhouse til you get to the 'split' between the jade sea and echovald forest) so dont feel rushed into getting it quite yet. Take your time and enjoy prophecies (it is THE original lol), then if you like it, get Nightfall (or wait to see reviews).... THEN get factions last |
